There is a brazing vacuum furnace that we are currently using. We are experiencing various problems with it. We think that it is probably due to diffusion pump. All gaskets were renewed, difussion oil was replaced with new one. Control tests were ...

I have provided a diagram above to aid in this answer. The diffusion pump is a very common mechanism for creating a high vacuum. Generally, the pump contains three cone-shaped pressure jets stacked vertically. There is pump oil at the bottom that is heated until it reaches a gaseous state. In the gaseous state, the oil will travel upward and exit through pressure jets in a downward direction. As the vapor travels towards the walls, it will trap air molecules that enter the pump through diffusion. With the cooling coils on the walls, the vapor will immediately condense, releasing the trapped air molecule at a lower position. The oil will travel back to the heater where the process will continue, and the air molecule will be removed via the backing pump and thus creating the high vacuum.

If your diffusion pump is not working properly, several potential issues could be affecting its performance. Here’s a list of common causes and diagnostic steps: 1. Insufficient Heating Issue: The diffusion pump relies on heating the oil to create vapor jets, which then carry away gases. If the heatRead more
If your diffusion pump is not working properly, several potential issues could be affecting its performance. Here’s a list of common causes and diagnostic steps:
1. Insufficient Heating
2. Cooling System Problems
3. Contaminated or Incorrect Diffusion Pump Oil
4. Improper Venting or Isolation
5. Faulty Diffusion Pump Valve or Interlock System
6. Leaks in the Vacuum System
7. Backstreaming of Oil
8. Obstructions or Contamination in Pump Lines
9. Improper System Pressure Staging
By working through these potential causes you can systematically eliminate common diffusion pump issues and restore efficient operation in your vacuum system.
